It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve had the chance to post here and it’s been a heck of a few days for me. Last week I ended up coming down with a 101.2 degree fever on Monday and then got to enjoy that little gift that kept on giving Tuesday and Wednesday fluctuating up to almost 102 both days. To say the least I felt fantastic. Luckily I had the fever break late Wednesday night so I could fly hole to Chicago for a long planned vacation for the weekend. I was still uber congested so I probably wasn’t the ideal row mate for the plane I was on since I’m pretty sure I was party leaky faucet on Thursday.
For those of you who are unaware, flying while completely congested may be quite possible the worst thing you can put yourself through. For those of us who don’t like to fly to begin with, having your head compressed by pressure and altitude changes pretty much makes your four hour flight hell in a metal tube. I got in to Chicago and had a Spartan Race on Saturday. Since I couldn’t even do 30 minutes on the elliptical without wanting to die a thousand deaths on Friday, Saturday was going to be less than fun. Part of the joy of running big angry mud runs is doing them with friends. Luckily I had a support crew that coaxed me into still completing the race despite how downright lousy I felt. This was a dramatic turn of events for me as I am typically the cheerleader/pace setter for this type of event so to not be felt weird. Luckily I finished the Super Spartan in just over 2 hours, which was 15 minute miles, way slower than normal, but I still finished in the top 10% of all open participants. Not bad for someone who was super sick a couple days prior.
This week I’ve been traveling and am up in Spokane, the first time I’ve been here, and it’s honestly beautiful up here. Such a nice change from Phoenix with the rolling hills and greenery, but it’s interesting having it stay light until 9:30 at night. I get to head home tonight after being gone for the last week and will get some ample time to decompress this weekend and take the break my body needs since I’m still struggling to shake the last bit of the cold I had last week. I look forward to writing more next week and getting back into it, but this past week and a half really knocked me on my ass.
